What is the camber? - How does camber impact alignment
Camber - when we rise the road about the center line for proper drainage then the rise height is called camber height. For different types of camber central height remains the same.
There are many types of camber such as straight line camber, parabolic camber and also combination of straight line and parabolic camber.
Straight line camber
In the above images you have seen straight and parabolic camber and also the equation of camber height.
Let take an example
Provide 3 percent camber and the road is 4 lane then find the equation of parabolic camber.
Solution
4 lane road than width of the road is = 3.5×4 = 14
1/n = 3/100
Some recommendations of IRC for camber height in different terrain
We can't provide high camber because it can harm the pavement material due to high velocity of water.
For mixed traffic conditions we generally prefer mixed camber.
